1. What is Lemmings?
Lemmings is a strategy game, available for many different platforms. The game goes like this: a number of blue & green creatures (lemmings) fall into a level, which consists of ground (rocks, wood, strange things), an entry (which the lemmings fall out of), an exit (which the lemmings must get to) and sometimes interactive objects (in the game in the original style, these are traps, but in the other games they can be a lot of different things). You are given a certain amount of skills (climber, floater, bomber, digger, basher, miner, builder, blocker) which you must use to help get as many lemmings as possible to the exit. While this is easy on the first few levels, the levels can be VERY difficult indeed.

No. If you want them, buy them. This question should tell you where.
9. Are there any freeware Lemmings games available?
There are small demos of most of the games for various platforms. They are available in the Downloads section.

Apart from these, there are a few short freeware lemmings games available.

10. Technical Troubles
Have a look at the Technical Information page.
11. How do I "unblock" blockers?
Instructions for Lemmings, Oh No!, Xmas/Holiday (all versions), Covox, Tribes, Companion and 3D

Remove the ground beneath the blocker. I good way to do this is to mine and then build so the lemming doesn't mine itself into an upleasant place.

Instructions for Chronicles

Make the blocker a 'turner'.

12. The manual for Chronicles promised that levels for the other 9 tribes would be delivered in the form of data disks. It's been 5 years. What happened?
There are several reasons why the other nine tribes were not delivered.

Sales for Chronicles weren't good enough to justify the promised sequels. Game manuals are printed six months before the release of the game. In that time, things can change which make fulfilling promises in manuals impossible.

Lemmings Chronicles does not work with most PCI graphics cards. PCI is the the standard in graphics so making something that isn't compatible with modern standards wouldn't be good (what was wrong with a patch?)

Despite what some people think, it takes a while to create lemmings levels. Months actually. You have to develope the scenery too. Since sales were so poor Psygnosis and DMA Design didn't think it was worth spending the time and money developing extra levels.

13. I saw my friend running Lemmings on UNIX. How do I do this?
There is no native version of Lemmings for Unix. You can run it if you have a Lemmings game for any platform of which there's an emulator for.
For example, if you have the Amiga version, you could run it on UAE (Un*x Amiga Emulator)
14. How do I pass [insert Lemmings level here]?
Complete solutions for most Lemmings games are in the Solutions section.
15. What are the codes for [insert Lemmings game here]?
Code lists for Lemmings games are available in the Codes section.
16. What is the version of Lemmings for [insert platform here] like?
Reviews can be found here.

In general the computer versions are pretty similar in control and graphics. There are two exceptions to this. In the Amiga and Atari ST versions of Lemmings, Oh No! More Lemmings and Holiday Lemmings (no Atari ST version) there is a mode for 2 players, with extra levels designed specifically for this mode. The other is that on the Amiga version of Lemmings, in some levels the "distraction" scenery is modified slightly. (For example: in the famous "We All Fall Down" levels, the Amiga version contains lava at the bottom of the screen while the PC version has an oppurtunity for the Lemmings to see what is below the level) Some versions contain a startup movie which basically consists of Lemmings getting out of a hot air balloon, walking around a bit and then it shows you that what the lemmings have been walking on is the Lemmings logo.

The console versions are limited by the control functions available on consoles. This makes playing them much harder than the computer versions where a mouse is available. Otherwise the graphics and sound are pretty similar. The Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo versions contain a 2 Player mode and feature the same extra levels that are in the Amiga and Atari ST versions. The Super Nintendo version has an extra rating entitled 'Sunsoft' that contains 5 extra levels. The Sega Genesis version has the standard Fun & Tricky levels but it's Taxing & Mayhem levels are unique to it. It also has two extra ratings (Present & Sunsoft) of 30 levels each. These levels are unique to it.

The Nintendo Gameboy versions are, well, Nintendo Gameboy versions. By this I mean that the limits of the Gameboy (colour, size, sound, graphics, control) impose limits on the games. Lemmings requires pixel precise control and the Gameboy can't deliver this. Lemmings on the Gameboy only has 100 levels (these levels have minor variations compared to the other versions). Lemmings 2: The Tribes has the 120 levels that are standard across all versions.
